dha go!es digital Day

On 25 September 2020, the dha go!es digital Day takes place virtually. On the one hand, this day is a prequel to the physical DHA2020->21 conference, on the other it is aimed to be an independent event. This virtual conference offers an opportunity to learn about the progress and current state of affairs in the projects funded by the Austrian Academy of Sciences’ go!digital next generation funding scheme. These presentations will be framed by a keynote of the DARIAH-EU director Toma Tasovac and a round table on the topic of “Digital Transformation of Austrian Humanities – accelerated?”

The event takes place on Zoom. Please click the links for the respective sessions to join. Be aware that Zoom login is required for joining the sessions, so do not forget to register and sign into Zoom ahead of joining the sessions!

Building Open Infrastructures for the Digital Humanities: Why Should we Care?
When we speak of infrastructures, it takes very little mental effort to make the leap from the material to the symbolic: infrastructures are built systems which facilitate the circulation of things, people and signs across established paths and protocols, but, as such, they are also, almost by default, seen as motors of change, propelling society into a better and brighter future. So what are we to do as humanities scholars sensitive to the questions of both technology and ideology? Can we — and should we — start to think infrastructurally? If so, how will that effect the way we conduct and disseminate our research? And can we build and contribute to research infrastructures without subscribing to the capitalist master narratives of efficiency and progress?
